remember remember the fifth of november

only cause you're gorgeous

during the first few weeks of my internship, i walked around the area to see what i could eat for lunch. i walked into a deli, saw the prices, and started to leave. my hand was on the door, but a man was coming in and we did those split second looks and fumbles of deciding whether one of us should side step or open the door. he ended up opening the door for me with a smile and said, "only cause you're gorgeous." and i walked out of the deli feeling pretty good about myself :)

it wasn't meant to be posted late, but i couldn't post this when i actually wrote it. i had to be okay again, before i revealed this to the world.

conversations with mom

in my room:
mom: ithan's getting married and i'm invited to the wedding
me: am i invited too???!
mom: of course
me: realllly?!
mom: of course not. i meant of course not. i forgot the not.

in my room again:
mom: omgosh! look at this eye shadow makeup! it's expired!! it says 2004 in the corner!
me: nooo that's the number code for the eye shadow color!
mom: OHH HAHAHA well look at this one! it expired in 1205!! [she winks] HAHAHA!
me and freddy: oh ha ha ha ha

at the dinner table:
mom: your goojea (some variation of aunt in chinese) went to europe for a business trip but she wanted to stay longer to have some fun and i suggested that we can go with her next year during the summer
freddy: vacation in europe?
mom: yeah, in french
[me and freddy look and laugh at each other]
me: you mean, france??
mom: yeah, france. and british too


she's a keeper : )

mister softee

yesterday, i was buying groceries in brooklyn chinatown with my mom and when we went to put the groceries in the car, lo and behold! a mister softee's ice cream truck! and that ice cream song was playing. when i used to live in brooklyn, that melody was summer's song and the ice cream was refreshingly delicious. i remember that i tried not to think about the rumor about the ice cream man and him not washing his hands after peeing. maybe it wasn't that delicious but it was just the childhood excitement of having ice cream before dinner that made it so so good. anyway, i really really wanted to get one but i was going to eat dinner soon so i made a responsible decision not to spoil my dinner. but yesterday was just one of those moments that nostalgia just happened to happen. i still kind of want one.

that tiny strip next to the roadway is where i used to bicycle, fly kites, fish, crab, and eat that mister softee ice cream.

this link is a video of the performances of norah jones' "don't know why" and john mayer's "your body is a wonderland." i loove these two songs respectively, but what gets me is the smooth musical transition from her song to his, from piano to guitar, and her jazzy blues voice to his raspy, also blues-ish voice. when they're in transition, her piano playing accompanies his guitar playing and i think that is pretty cool :)
